Taking photos in art galleries & The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice

I'm guilty of being the person who takes photos of the art they are seeing in galleries. I want to be able to remember the work that I have seen, so I snap some pics. While in Italy we played a game that I'm not sure we titled, but I'm going to called it FAMOUS.

The premise of the game was simple, if you saw a famous painting, you said "FAMOUS". The game originated in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence so as y'all can probably imagine, we were saying it a lot. Soon it became "FAMOUS, pretty famous, moderately famous, I don't know that painting."

I constantly feel in danger of becoming a person who only looks at the art through there lense - so focused on getting a good picture to always remember that I saw that particular Kandinsky on that particular day in that particular gallery - that I'm not actually appreciating the work while I'm there.
Maybe the fact that I am conscious of not being that person means that I won't be... A girl can hope anyway.

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice was beautiful. It came at a perfect time in the trip also, almost smack bang in the middle. We had visiting Rome, Florence and were midway through exploring Venice and I felt like I was in a bit of a rut. Everything was beautiful and new (to my eyes at least) but I was so, so tired - and all of the beauty of Italy started to look the same. I wish I had have had a little bit more knowledge about the architecture and the ability then to tell just how old each building was. The modern art in the ancient city was a perfect breather. Seeing something that provided such a stark and obvious contrast made me view the rest of Italy in a new light.

To combat my fears I try to buy postcards of my favourite works from each particular gallery. The galleries across Italy provided me with 13 more to add to my collection.
